Funnily enough, our ‘About Us’ isn’t really about us. It’s about you and the people in your care.
Because since 2009, our purpose has been simple: to help protect people through vulnerable times. From the very beginning, we’ve designed products and services that create safer spaces in mental health, education, and custodial environments, places where dignity and safety must go hand in hand.
Working closely with clinicians, architects, and estates teams, we’ve spent years listening, learning, and designing solutions that make challenging environments safer, more comfortable, and more cost-effective. Every single day.
As designers and engineers, we believe good design should improve people’s lives. That’s why we work alongside our customers at every stage, from concept to installation, through an iterative, six-stage process grounded in co-production. Together, we approach every problem with a blank canvas, drawing insight from hundreds of lived experiences to ensure our designs work not just in theory, but in the real world.
Our collaborative ethos has helped make us leaders in door safety innovation, from durable finger guards used by over 70% of Local Education Authorities, to anti-barricade and ligature alarm doors, locksets and handles trusted by more than 80% of NHS Trusts.
In 2016, Primera joined Safehinge, uniting two award-winning design teams with one shared vision: to raise the standard of safety and dignity across every environment we touch. Together, we’ve developed pioneering solutions such as the Swiftstop anti-barricade doorset and the world’s first full-door ligature alarm. Technologies that have redefined what safety can look and feel like in mental healthcare.
