Crosslet House Care Home Enhances Safety with Safehinge Primera's Integral Finger Guards

Crosslet House, a state-of-the-art 90-bed care home in West Dunbartonshire, was designed to create a comfortable and homely environment for elderly residents.  Completed in 2017, the care home was built as part of an ambitious project to create a comfortable, less institutional environment for residents.

As part of a £20 million investment, the goal was to build a non-clinical, domestic-scale living environment that catered to the unique needs of its residents. To achieve this, Safehinge Primera’s integral finger guards were installed to eliminate safety risks while maintaining the care home’s carefully considered interior.
The discreet design of the integral door finger guards ensured that the doors were safe, familiar, and visually unobtrusive, all while offering essential protection from finger injuries.

The Challenge

West Dunbartonshire Council and Cooper Cromar Architects wanted to create a care facility that felt more like home than a hospital. The careful design included spacious living areas, private rooms, and shared spaces, ensuring comfort and safety for the elderly residents.
However, the safety of residents remained a top priority, especially regarding the risk of finger injuries around doors, which are common in high-traffic areas. The solution needed to be discreet to preserve the comforting, homely atmosphere while providing effective protection from the risk of finger trapping.

The Solution

  • Safehinge Primera’s integral finger guards were the ideal choice for Crosslet House. Designed to blend seamlessly into the environment, these discreet guards offered both safety and aesthetic appeal. Key benefits of the product include:
Invisible Protection: The rounded heel design eliminates the gap between the door and frame, preventing the risk of fingers becoming trapped while remaining virtually invisible to the eye.
Seamless Integration: Available in various finishes, including timber and RAL colours, our integral finger guards fit seamlessly into any environment, complementing the carefully designed interiors.
  • Durability: Safehinge Primera’s finger guards last the lifetime of the door, removing the need for regular replacements and offering significant cost savings of £500-£1,000 per door over 25 years compared to traditional plastic alternatives.

By integrating these guards, Crosslet House was able to ensure the safety of residents without disrupting the overall look and feel of the building, contributing to a familiar, comforting environment.
