12-bed Young People's Unit creates homely yet safe environment with Safehinge Primera doorsets and locksets

When NHS Tayside built this 12-bed unit for young people who would potentially be living away from home for months, detail was everything. So as well as offering the ultimate in safety, the door closers had to feel homely and let service users decide whether to keep rooms open or shut, whilst still allowing staff easy access and observation.

The Challenge

The brief was to design with recovery in mind, helping with normalisation, as the young people would be spending months away from home.

Safety and performance were also a priority, providing peace of mind to everyone.   This meant ensuring door equipment was anti-ligature and anti-barricade.

The Solution

The architects chose our concealed overhead freeswing door closer. With no closing force during day-to-day use, it behaves just like a domestic door.  Yet it also automatically self-closes in the event of a fire alarm, ensuring fire compartments are maintained.  Plus, the backcheck function provides an internal braking mechanism, minimising any potential abuse that could damage the door.

As well as being easy to install, it’s the only freeswing door closer that’s anti-ligature and anti-barricade.
