Humber NHS Foundation Trust installs over 100 anti-barricade stops
As part of an ongoing capital improvement program, some 100 anti-barricade stops across five wards were replaced in August and September 2017. The existing wedge-shaped push-button anti-barricade stops were replaced with our retrofit anti-barricade stop – addressing the limitation of push-button stops, which can fail to operate if there’s internal pressure.

The Challenge
The new stops were to replace the existing ones that were already in place, so the removal and installation had to be quick and easy to carry out, with minimal repair work for the Trust without the need for detailed site surveys.
The Solution
Humber NHS Trust selected Movastop, retrofit anti-barricade stops for several reasons:
- Its rapid release mechanism means doors could be opened outwardly by staff within just 15 seconds.
- Internal pressure wouldn’t affect the activation – so it can be opened even if a service user is pushing on the door.
- It can be stored securely in a parking station when removed, minimising weaponisation and meeting the Trust’s requirements of increasing staff safety.
- Plus, the reinforced aluminium and steel construction would help to provide durability.
The existing wedge-shaped anti-barricade stops were removed, the frame was patched, and the new anti-barricade stop was installed. Unaffected by the size of the door frame, it was a simple and straightforward retrofit.
The Impact
As a result, the Trust has used Movastop since 2012 and now specifies it as standard across their estate because it’s a low maintenance option that’s practical and safe on a day-to-day basis.
