FITZROY HOUSE, ST. ANDREW'S HEALTHCARE (CAMHS)

Opened in Northampton in 2017, FitzRoy House was purpose-built to provide residential care for up to 110 children and adolescents across 11 wards.  Designed in partnership with the young people, its purpose was to set new standards for Mental Health with an emphasis on welcoming, friendly and nurturing environments.

The medium-secure unit serves a diverse range of needs and is home to some of the UK's most complex Mental Health issues. Therefore, creating a safe and secure environment was a priority, with a homely welcoming feel also vital.

Seamlessly balancing safety, security, and aesthetics

Seamlessly balancing safety, security, and aesthetics

With such a delicate balance between safety, security and aesthetics required, the designers choose our 5-way SOS (Staff Override System). Combining multiple override functions, it gave staff peace of mind, knowing they had access to rooms in an emergency situation.

Supporting recovery and reducing service-user risk

As a result, staff have been able to protect the vulnerable youngsters in their care, yet still address the challenging realities of everyday Mental Health environments – meeting their main objectives of supporting Mental Health recovery and reducing service-user risk.
